Fast-food giants are rapidly deploying more order kiosks in the US. AdvertisementMajor US fast-food chains plan to aggressively add more digital order kiosks to their restaurants – and bring in bigger checks in the process. They make up "well over" half of its in-restaurant orders at these locations, CFO Katie Fogertey told investors in November. As well as labor savings, kiosk orders "tend to skew to dine-in" and thus use less packaging than other digital orders, she said. In the US, digital orders currently make up just 15% of Burger King's sales.

New York CNN —To undercut its fast-growing rivals, Subway is making a big change to its meats. Subway locations currently fresh slice vegetables and freshly bakes bread and cookies daily. The makeover placed less of an emphasis on customization in favor of a “Subway Series” sandwich menu, which now accounts for 20% of sales. Average yearly sales at Subway US restaurants, however, are much lower compared to its sandwich business rivals. Subway is also up for sale, with Haynes saying that it’s “on track” for an imminent announcement, likely in mid-July.

Will Hurd, a retired CIA officer and former Texas congressman, announced Thursday that is joining the race for the Republican presidential nomination, launching a long-shot bid as a moderate alternative to GOP hard-liners. But he faces long odds in a growing primary field still dominated by former President Donald Trump, analysts say. Hurd called a 2024 battle between Trump and President Joe Biden the "rematch from hell," claiming that a majority of Americans would prefer other candidates. Hurd has cast himself as a moderate Republican who can appeal to voters across the political spectrum. "Republican voters want to win," Terrill said.

States across the South were assessing storm damage on Friday after a series of tornadoes swept across the region, leaving at least four people dead, including three in Texas, the authorities said. He told CNN that one person died in the trailer park and two others died downtown, and that one person was missing. About 200 homes and the town firehouse were destroyed, and infrared-equipped drones were surveying the damage, he said. Officials in Perryton, about 115 miles northeast of Amarillo, Texas, could not immediately be reached for comment. The Perryton Fire Department said on Facebook late Thursday that the fire station “took a direct hit,” but that its trucks and ambulances were still operable.
